MSWordToPDF

Here are instructions on 2 different ways about how to convert a Word document into a PDF file. This should work on all Windows systems (Windows 95, 98, 2000 and Me, NT 4.0 and XP).

1 # With pdf 995[ | ]

This is a free download from http://software995.com/cgi-bin/link.pl -> Doubleclick to unzip and doubleclik to istall.

  1. Open the Word file to be converted
  2. Go to File > Print
  3. Select pdf995 as the printer and click "ok"
  4. Select destination, provide file name, and save.

2 # With Acrobat Distiller[ | ]

(this usually comes with Adobe Acrobat which is not free. Note: it is NOT included in the free Acrobat Reader!)

  1. Open the Word file to be converted. Go to File > Print. You should see a small checkbox with the words " print to file " Check this box. Click Print.
  2. You will see a prompt for a file name- enter a filename ending with either " .prn "(2000/ME/XP) or " .ps "(95/98/NT), it is THIS file that will be converted to a PDF.
  3. Launch Acrobat Distiller (AcroDist.exe).
  4. Optional Configure CMYK settings: After Distiller opens, go to Settings > Job Options > Color . Set CMYK to " none ." Please note: you do this settings change only once, it is to compensate for a BUG in the program that can cause the PDF conversion not to work. For subsequent conversions you can skip this step.
  5. Go to File > Open. Locate the . prn or . ps file you created in step 1.(By default, Distiller looks for ".ps" files- you might need to switch it to " all files " under " files of type .") Open it. You will now have a . pdf file with the same file name, in the same location as the original .prn or .ps file.

3 # With PDFCreator (Open Source with Ghostscript)[ | ]

http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

  1. Same as other pdf making programs (install and print!).
  2. This is open source project.
